Niagara Sexual Assault Centre offering seminars
A warning from the Niagara Sexual Assault Centre to be mindful of the increase of drink spiking, especially at this time of the year.
Community Outreach Manager Tricia Cosgrove tells us it happens among students, so they've started an awareness campaign.
She says they'll talk to organizations, also bars and restaurants on what to watch for. "An individual has come in, and is sober, or sober looking, and after a very short amount of time is slurring his or her words, they're not able to walk properly. If someone is very introverted and shy, they might become very extroverted."
She adds Crimestoppers offers a $1,000 reward for the arrest of someone who spikes a drink.
She says it does not take long to notice someone's drink has been spiked. "Render you with no memory, you could pass out, you could get an elevated heart rate, if you're shy then showing different behaviours than what you normally would."
She stresses to never leave a drink alone, and be suspicious of someone buying strangers a drink.
