Niagara Regional police have determined, based on evidence gathered, an assault in downtown St. Catharines was not motivated by hate.
Two St. Catharines residents were charged after a 25-year old Welland man was beaten Saturday night.
There has been suggestion on social media it was hate due to the victim's sexual orientation.
Police add their statement reflects findings of their investigation, and not a determination of the Crown Attorney's office.
The NRP adds should credible new information come forward, it will be assessed.
