Conservatives urging Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino to step down over Bernardo's transfer
Conservatives are criticizing the decision to keep serial killer Paul Bernardo in a medium security prison.
In a statement, leader Pierre Poilievre and Niagara Falls MP Tony Baldinelli say this shows the Liberal government is soft on crime.
This comes after Corrections Canada Commissioner Anne Kelly explained the decision yesterday.
She pointed out the killer was determined to be medium risk to escape, but high risk to public safety.
"La Macaza is a medium security institution that is compatible with this inmate's profile. The institution offers programming for sex offenders, and the staff there specialize in managing this type of offender."
The Conservatives accuse the Liberal government of rejecting Baldinelli's bill to keep high risk prisoners in maximum security.
