Drivers Arrested in Separate Hit and Runs

There were 2 separate cases in St. Catharines

Update: August 26th

Police say they've arrested the driver wanted in the hit and run on Church Street.

Initial information indicated the collision happened just after the noon hour, and a black Infinity car was involved.

However, police now say it happened just before 12pm, and a red 2023 Dodge Ram pickup truck was involved.

They add the driver was arrested earlier today, 73-year old William Buitenwerf of Welland, charged with failing to stop at scene of accident/bodily harm.  He was held for bail.

Update: August 23rd

Police have arrested the driver wanted in the King Street hit and run.

They say 31-year old Daniel Debon of Niagara on the Lake was arrested Friday afternoon, at around 2:40, as police noticed the suspect vehicle.

He is charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident, causing bodily harm, he was released with a future court date.

Police need your help to find the drivers and vehicles involved in two separate hit and runs in St. Catharines.

They say the first one happened just after the noon hour yesterday, when a man walking along Church Street was hit by a black Infinity car, near Clarke.

Police arrived on scene to find the 39-year old St. Catharines man with serious injuries, he was rushed to hospital.

The driver of the car did not stay.

Police say it was heading southeast on Court, between Welland Avenue and Church, then turned right onto Church, hitting the man on the north side of Church, near Clarke.

Later that day, a 20-year old St. Catharines woman seriously hurt after being hit by a van in a hit and run.

Police say this happened late yesterday afternoon on King Street, between Academy and Court Streets.

The woman was sent to hospital, police add the driver of the van did not stay.

The van is an early 2000s white Ford Econoline, that was heading east on King, hitting the woman on the south side of the road.

They've also got security footage of a suspect.

Police have not said anything about whether these two cases are connected, or completely isolated of each other.
