City reminding residents to keep fire hydrants clear during winter
The City of Niagara Falls has launched a new program to help firefighters.
As part of the Adopt-A-Hydrant program, residents are being encouraged to do their part to keep fire hydrants clear during the winter months.
Winter storms can often bury hydrants under the snow, forcing firefighters to locate and dig them out before putting out flames.
Residents interested in adopting one of the City's over 3,000 hydrants can click here.
If you have one on your property, you're reminded to keep a one-meter radius around it, as well as a one-meter wide path from the hydrant to the curb.
In the summer, you should keep trees and hedges cut back back, and keep it free of grass, weeds and debris.
