Construction is set to begin on Niagara’s first Diverging Diamond Interchange at the QEW overpass on Glendale Avenue in NOTL
According to the Niagara Region’s website construction on Phase 1 is set to begin next month with the DDI expected to be completed in 2022
If your wondering what it is?
A diverging diamond interchange allows two directions of traffic to temporarily cross to the left side of the road, providing easier access to a highway.
The $54 million project also includes a roundabout, carpool lot, pedestrian and bike lanes and will result in the demolition of the Glendale Avenue bridge.
This will be the first Diverging Diamond Interchange constructed in Ontario.
There are only two other operational in Canada at this time.
