Motorized activities on frozen bodies of water are especially risky , as repeated passes can cause the ice to fracture.
Some ice safety tips include checking the thickness of the ice, and staying near the shore.
Residents can also check the colour of the ice.
Clear blue ice is considered the strongest, whereas white or opaque ice is much weaker.
