City council is dealing with problems on Pine and Towpath Streets, and Sullivan Avenue, some businesses consider moving
It's an annoyance for any city council to deal on a regular basis, sorting out parking problems.
Thorold is looking at parking restrictions for Pine and Towpath Streets, and Sullivan Avenue.
Mayor Terry Ugulini says he's dealing with businesses considering moving, as students continue to take spots on the street. "The problem is they don't want to buy the permits to park in the parking lot, because they charge them to park, it's not free. So, this is the problem we're up against, it's time sensitive, businesses are beside themselves."
A 2-hour parking limit will be considered, brought to council in the new year.
Councillor Jim Handley adds there's a problem on his street. "You go there all night, and it's empty, as soon as it's daytime, all the side streets, even my street on Carlton Street, are filled. I know it's not the people that live there because they're at work, but when they come home, sometimes they have to park in the high school parking lot."
He said students get free bus passes, but still park at city lots.
