The City is looking for resident feedback to improve access to the waterfront
The City of St. Catharines wants to hear from residents about access to the waterfront area.
The City is creating a new Waterfront Access Master Plan, as it looks to improve and beautify the Lake Ontario shoreline.
The study area includes beaches, parks, trails and other waterfront access points.
"Unlocking the full potential of our waterfront lies in collaboration and active participation with the community," said Design and Construction Engineer Jocelyn St. Denis. "Once we have feedback from residents on how people are accessing and using the City’s waterfront and what updates they’d like to see, we can use that info to assist in establishing a strong master plan."
In 2021, the stairs used for public access to the waterfront in the Abbey Mews area of Port Dalhousie were closed after the City implements emergency shoreline protection.
Officials also say several existing staircases are reaching the end of their life cycle, and upgrades are needed to ensure safe and reliable access to the waterfront.
Residents can provide their feedback here until August 11th.
