City of Niagara Falls filling roughly 2,000 so far this year, always welcome updates from public on problem areas
It's pothole season.... when every city, including Niagara Falls, works feverishly to get those darn things dealt with.
GM of Municipal Works Erik Nickel told city council Tuesday night about 2,000 have been filled in this year, two work crews able to do 80 to 100 a day.
He adds they're waiting on hot patch material, using cold patch now. "New for us is safety regulations, requiring 2 vehicles... a blocker truck and a patching truck... so it's slower than usual, it's more costly than usual, which isn't great, but it's safer."
He says they're always looking for new ways to improve how the work is done.
"Our crews won't drive past a pothole just to get to one on the list, they will stop and fix it. We are required to inspect all of our roads on a specific timeline, so a busy street is required to be inspected by us more frequently than a local road."
He says they're aware of most potholes, and are doing their best to get to them.
