SIU found no grounds connecting officer to man's fractured vertebrae
A sigh of relief for Niagara regional police knowing one of their own has been cleared of doing anything wrong in relation to an arrest.
Police were called in October to a St. Catharines shopping plaza concerning a man causing a disturbance.
They tracked the man to his apartment, where he belligerently made his way to the balcony after hearing they'd take him to the hospital.
Fearing for his safety, an officer tackled him to the floor, there was a struggle, but eventually he was arrested.
Police say the 50-year old suffered a fractured vertebrae, but the province's Special Investigations Unit has not found grounds an officer committed a criminal offence in connection to the injury.
