The CUTRIC hopes the province supports helping people move among wineries
There's a chance a new shuttle service could start in Niagara, moving people around Niagara wineries.
The Canadian Urban Transit Research and Innovation Consortium is hoping the provincial government will help fund a proposed shuttle service throughout Niagara wineries.
The Consortium's President Josipa Petrunic says she came up with the idea after watching some tourists have trouble getting around.
But there's also employees who don't have transportation. "These wineries are far apart, and they're really expensive to get to if you take an Uber. And 3rd, given that I work with transit, and given that transit agencies are our consortium members, I wanted to better understand why public transit couldn't serve these locations."
She says over two dozen wineries support this idea, who've told her they need help moving workers around the wineries.
"Like most people will think the fare is the most important thing. It is not, study after study shows it's frequency and convenience. If you make it frequent and convenient, you can charge people and generally people will pay for a service that's frequent and convenient."
