Niagara Falls Moving Forward with Complex

City website

Lawyer believes it to be the largest mixed use project in the region

It's being called the largest apartment building and business complex in Niagara.

Niagara Falls city council is allowing rezoning of property on Dorchester Road, by Highway 420, to allow four apartment buildings with 1,782 units, along with commercial space.

However, nearby residents including Glenn Hynes, are not sure about potential noise.  "We've already heard about noise and quality of life.  Residents already experience significant noise from the QEW, Highway 420, and Dorchester Road, particularly on summer weekends.  Adding more than 1,000 vehicles to this will intensify the impact on existing homes."

City staff say existing roads will accommodate, but traffic studies are still needed.

One business owner across the road said he welcomes the investment.

The developer's lawyer, Rocky Vacca, says the Butera family employs over 700 people.  "I'm giving you this background because often I hear that developers get approval, but don't build.  Mr. Butera is not one of those developers... he gets approval and he builds, his track record speaks for itself."

It's a $757-million project, planning for four apartment buildings, two mixed use, and one commercial.
