You'll be able to cross again from Dain City to Welland on Friday, after the old one was closed in 2019
It's been a long time coming, but you will soon be able to cross the canal from Dain City to Welland.
The city of Welland says the new Forks Road bridge will open Friday, after the old one was closed in 2019 over safety concerns.
The $13.6-million project to replace the original bridge was funded by the city, province and federal governments, as well as Empire Communities, a prominent developer in the community.
The city adds there are improved safety measures, some modernized features, and will alleviate traffic congestion for vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.
There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony a week Friday, at 10am, at the new bridge.
