Wayne Gates says this is not the time for an election, everyone is needed regardless of political party
Pressure from Niagara Falls' MPP for a Team Ontario approach when handling Donald Trump's tariff threats.
Wayne Gates is challenging Premier Doug Ford and rumours of a provincial election in the face of American tariff threats, to work with border communities to protect jobs.
Gates says what he hears from communities is that this is an existential threat that requires everyone helping, regardless of being Conservative, Liberal, NDP, Green or Independent.
The NDP further says in the middle of an affordability crisis, spending hundreds of millions of dollars on an election is something we can't afford.
Instead of calling an election, the Niagara Falls MPP wants the legislature recalled on Monday so we can stand up against Trump's tariffs.
However, Premier Ford has said he might need to spend billions of dollars in response to the tariffs, and has considered asking voters their thoughts on spending that type of money through an election.
