The bill will ban strikes by education workers, but union says they'll walk anyway
New legislation is expected to pass today at Queen's Park, imposing a contract on 55,000 education workers ahead of a planned strike tomorrow.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees has said workers will stay out until there's a deal that's been mutually agreed upon, even though the legislation bans a strike.
The education workers include early childhood educators, educational assistants and custodians.
The Niagara District School Board, the local Catholic board, and Toronto District School Board all say schools will be closed because they can't ensure students' safety.
CUPE presented a counter-offer late Tuesday, but Education Minister Stephen Lecce said the government will not negotiate unless the union cancels its job action.
