Cold enough to freeze a lake
The ice coverage on Lake Erie is finally over 50 percent after a slow start this season.
That means the lake is back to its historical average for ice coverage for this time of year
Typically Lake Erie is 55 percent covered by January 31st.
As for Lake Ontario, 17 percent of the lake is covered in ice which is close to its typical average of 20 percent.
But it may not last long, U.S. meteorologists say the temperature outlooks for early February have Western New York and much of the Northeast experiencing slightly above average temperatures.
