Councillors voted for an outside independent body to do it, some disagreed saying it's not necessary
Grimsby town council has voted for an independent body to review the compensation given to those who serve.
However, once Councillor Nick DiFlavio learned a pay increase regularly comes with cost of living, he felt it wasn't necessary.
Councillor Jacob Baradziej agreed. "I don't think this is something we need to be spending our resources on, we have bigger fish to fry. I'd even go a step further and say I think a lot of these positions should be volunteer."
Councillor Lianne Vardy, though, pointed out this is just good business sense.
"There are times with this job that we are dealing with issues that are quite complicated, that the public isn't even aware of. I do think there is a value to what we do."
Councillor Veronica Charrois added people need to be paid for spending time away from family.
