Councillor says parents wanting before and after school programs
Parents in Fort Erie may be pleased to hear their concerns over lack of before and after school programs is being addressed.
Town council just passed a resolution from Councillor Noyes, who noted there's been a lack of students in some schools, resulting in students being bused to schools were services are, but there's also staff shortages.
Town council unanimously voted for her resolution asking for more provincial funding.
"I did have a chance to talk to some people from the region, and they're all for doing whatever they can. The government does give the region the money to coordinate all this. They wish they could provide it to everyone," she says.
The councillor says most schools in Fort Erie qualify for such a program.
"We probably all remember the personal support workers, how we just couldn't find them. The government really saw the problem, identified the problem, and created much more opportunities for education for personal support workers, and they actually paid them to take the course," she says.
Councillor Noyes is hopeful with more PSWs trained for senior's homes and health care, that'll spill over to the schools.
