Welland Fire and Emergency Services inspected 2 buildings, after complaints were received
Thousands of dollars in fines will be paid by the owners of two buildings in Welland for fire safety violations.
The Welland Fire and Emergency services tell us between February and March of last year, they responded to several complaints concerning a buiding on Division Street.
They found the main entrance to the 5-storey commercial building was chained shut, and despite several attempts to have the owner fix the problem, legal action was taken, which led to the owner being found guilty last month in court, and fined $13,500.
The fire department also says a 2-unit residential building on Scholfield Avenue was inspected last December, after complaints, inspectors finding no smoke or carbon monoxide detectors anywhere.
The property owner was found guilty in March, and fined $11,250.
