Offer from the province not enough to sustain
Education workers in the Niagara Region say they don't want to strike, adding they need to pay the bills.
Members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees in Ontario voted convincingly to strike, not happy with the 2-percent wage hike offer from the province, far below the 11.7 percent they're asking for.
The Review is reporting CUPE local 4156 says many of them, being custodians, librarians and administrative staff, are taking second and third jobs, since what they make at school is not enough.
The union accuses the government of playing politics, while the government says it's disappointed, but not surprised by the vote.
