William E. Brown will take students during final construction of Wainfleet school, from March break to end of school year
District School Board of Niagara and the Catholic board joining forces during final construction of a new school in Wainfleet.
The two boards say the contractor working on the new St. Elizabeth Catholic Elementary school has asked staff and students to relocate in March, so they can finish construction.
The Catholic board considered moving the soon to be displaced students to Port Colborne or Welland, but decided that would be too far for some to travel.
The DSBN stepped up, offering to house the 96 St. Elizabeth students in portables at William E. Brown from March to the end of the school year.
In September, everyone at William E. Brown public, Winger public, and St. Elizabeth Catholic elementary will move into the new school.
Common areas such as washrooms and playgrounds will be shared by students of both boards, and the boards' principals are working out details for shared after-school childcare.
