Empire Communities gave Welland city council update on parks, homes, trails and signs
Some impressive progress shown by Empire Communities to develop Dain City with parks, homes, trails and the new Forks Road bridge.
Vice President Matthew Forezli showed Welland city council much is done, expect for east and west parks.
He added the Dain City Gateway feature will have a sign reading Dain City Flatwater District. "The term 'flatwater' invokes a sense of tranquility, and really highlights the area's proximity to the significant waterway. The cultural significance is that Welland has a history deeply connected to its waterways."
He says the word District adds a sense of community and belonging.
Councillor John Chiocchio was curious about the sign.
"Dain City can be construed as part of Port Colborne. There's that stigma attached to it, where 'we're kind of closer to Port Colborne than we are to Welland, the bridge is connected to Port Colborne.' But at the end of the day, it's the City of Welland taxpayers."
The developer noted Welland can be added to the signage.
