Infrastructure Ontario and Niagara Health have begun the process of locating a team to design, build, finance and maintain the project.
Prospective teams must issue a request for qualifications in order to express their interest in bidding to help deliver the project.
Once submissions are reviewed, a shortlist of three teams will be invited to respond to a request for proposals.
The proposals are expected to be released in the fall.
The new facility will have a senior's focus, and it will include the creation of Centres of Excellence in stroke, geriatric psychiatry, complex care and aging and wellness.
The project is working towards becoming the first WELL certified healthcare facility in the country.
Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff says this is an example of the province's commitment to healthcare in Niagara.
"This substantial investment shows the Government of Ontario's recognition of the importance of investing in health care in Niagara. With this new build, and the WLMH rebuild in West Niagara, the Niagara Region will have a significant number of brand-new health care facilities, which will ensure patients and their families receive the best possible care, through the talented and passionate health care workers of Niagara Health."
